A HISTORY OF TIMESHARING
Timesharing began in Europe in the 1960's was introduced into the US in the 1970's. Now referred to sometimes as "Vacation Ownership" and "Vacation Clubs", over the past ten years it has grown to be one of the fastest sub markets in the vacation area real estate industries, totaling $2.5 billion per year in sales. Approximately 1.9 million US families own timeshare intervals, which represents almost 2% of all households. The United States accounts for 37.3% of the world timeshare market.
THE COST OF TIMESHARING
In many circumstances, the cost of a timeshare is greatly increased to cover the costs of what is known as "Normal Marketing". In fact, marketing and sales costs can be as high as 50% to 60%. These costs are generally collected to cover subsidized tours to the property, which include accommodations, gifts, referrals, telemarketing and direct mail. Another expense that is often added in isthe cost of "off premises contacts", which you may know as the person you may bump into while on vacation and who persuades you to visit a timeshare development for a no-obligation visit. Then there are the commissions to the various levels of high-pressure salesmen and their managers. Fortunately, our timeshares have no marketing costs added, which means more money in your pocket.
